Construction of the nuclear power plant discussed with residents of Pomerania
Information meetings conducted by the investor in the first half of April were held in Słajszewo, Sasin, Jackowo and Kopalin, i.e. in the Choczewo municipality, indicated by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe as a preferred location for the first nuclear power plant in Poland. Their main purpose was to present the most important information on the investment as included in the so-called environmental report The document was submitted to the General Director of Environmental Protection on March 29.
- Each of these meetings was attended by at least several dozen people, for which, on behalf of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, I would like to thank you very much. We know that the topic of the nuclear power plant in Pomerania is important to residents and therefore we will continue the dialogue we have started both with the local community and with local authorities. We will also organize similar information meetings devoted to the environmental report for the residents of Krokowa and Gniewino communes - says Joanna Szostek, acting manager of the Communication and Stakeholder Management Team.
The meetings were attended by experts who prepared the environmental impact assessment report on the nuclear power plant in Pomerania. The representatives of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe presented information to the residents concerning the selection of a preferred location for the investment as well as the plans included in the environmental report concerning the associated infrastructure, i.e. roads, railroad connection, water and sewage infrastructure or data communications.
Due to the considerable volume of the report itself, resulting from the fact that the environmental investigations were conducted on an exceptional scale, the meeting also provided an overview of the contents of the document with indications where to find the information for each field. Data were also cited on the impact of investments in a variety of areas, including real estate, forestry, tourism, the labor market, and the economy. The impact of the investment on radiation safety was also described.
Apart from the presentation of details from the environmental report, the meetings were primarily an opportunity to hold discussions and ask questions about the investment developed by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe.
The April events started a series of information meetings in the region, during which the company will familiarize the residents with the environmental report, as well as the status of the investment and the possibilities of cooperation with the local community. The events were held at the initiative of PEJ and were not part of the public participation in the process of issuing the environmental decision for Poland's first nuclear power plant.
